The USAID-funded Milijuli Nepali Radio Program team constantly travels to earthquake-affected districts to listen to the voices of the communities who are rebuilding their homes and lives. On April 17, the team visited villages in Sindupalchowk—the district that recorded the highest number of deaths after the earthquake—with CEO of Nepal’s National Reconstruction Authority, Dr. Govinda Pokharel to engage community members and answer their questions. He also spent a night in a temporary shelter with a local family to experience the challenges displaced families face and better understand their needs. -- with BBC Media Action

On April 21-22, U.S. Senator Chris Coons, U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley, and a 10-member American delegation visited Nepal to observe USAID activities aimed at improving women's livelihoods and resilience. The delegation traveled with Ambassador Teplitz and USAID Mission Director Peter Malnak to meet with a women's community development group under the USAID-supported "Sabal" project in Kavre and observe how they work with local authorities to address the needs of their community, including job skills training and basic education on health and nutrition. The delegates also met with women masons to learn about their roles in reconstruction efforts in their communities following the 2015 earthquakes. Photos by Tripura Oli/SABAL and USAID/Nepal

Sharada’s village in Nepal was destroyed by the cataclysmic earthquake in April 2015. In the aftermath she helped her neighbors rebuild their shattered homes and – with the help of a BBC Media Action radio program supported by USAID – went on to become one of a small number of professional female masons in the country.
