Tire Barn is an Indiana success story. What began as a family petroleum distribution business, eventually evolved into a chain of gas stations, convenience stores, and retail tire outlets.
Everett and Iva Tate Jones started the business in the 1920s as Everybody’s Oil Corporation. They blended high octane gasoline and manufactured lubricating oils and greases for central Indiana’s fast growing automotive industry. During the 1930s, the company expanded into retail gas stations. The Jones family later opened Indiana’s first convenience stores and launched the Tire Barn.
In the fall of 2007, Tire Barn sold its retail gas outlets and convenience stores to focus on the growing tire business. Tire Barn eventually opened 31 locations in Indiana, Illinois, and Tennessee. The company was acquired in 2012 by Monro Muffler Brake, Inc., the fourth largest independent tire dealer in the United States. The stores will continue to operate under the Tire Barn name.
