Watershed Agricultural Council

5
We work with farm and forest landowners in the Croton and Catskill/Delaware watersheds of the New York City Water Supply System. Focused on natural resource conservation, clean drinking water and farmland protection, we assist landowners who willingly participate in our programs in agriculture, forestry, conservation easements and farm to in the name of responsible land stewardship. Forests and farmland are the highest and best use of land for protecting water quality. The Council holds over 24,000 acres in conservation easements making it one of New York State's largest private land trusts.

While helping to maintain clean drinking water for nine million New Yorkers, the Council helps farm and forest businesses improve their regional viability through the Pure Catskills "Buy Local" branding campaign for farm, food and wood-products businesses in six counties west of the Hudson River. Over 200 members reap the benefits of collaborative marketing throughout the region and within the NYC market.

The WAC is funded by the New York City Department of Environmental Protection, Department of Agriculture, Forest Service and other federal, foundation and private sources.
