Mary Bethune Academy, formerly Bethune Nursery School, is a United Way of Central Virginia Partner Agency. We are located one block from the campus of Virginia University of Lynchburg. Housed in a former elementary school building, the facility lends itself to the ages of the children served. The classrooms are large and bright and the atmosphere welcoming and child friendly.

MBA is incorporated and governed by a Board of Directors. Since 1936, MBA has provided child care for children between two and five years of age. In the spring of 2009, MBA opened newly remodeled rooms for infants and toddlers. Also, in 2009, MBA entered into an "inclusion" agreement with Lynchburg City Schools. Children with special needs who attend MBA are also served daily by professionals from Lynchburg City Schools

Mary Bethune Academy was one of four programs in the Lynchburg area to receive a quality star rating by participating in the governors QRIS (Quality Rating Improvement System) in 2009. The school is also a charter member of Success By Six and Smart Beginnings, quality program initiatives of the United Way of Central Virginia.
