Don't miss tonight's opening of Irreverent Theater at O Cinema Wynwood!
Join us for the Opening Reception of "Irreverent Theater" by ArtCenter alumnus Mark Osterman at O Cinema Wynwood. The reception will be followed by the film screening of "Dark City." This event is free and open to the public. "Irreverent Theater" features a new series of paintings by Mark Osterman. The series is inspired by Hollywood Film Noir of the early 1940s through late 1950s and includes narratives that range from the personal to the irreverent to the socio-political. Osterman explores how the media's visual interpretation of the world differs from its actual condition and believes these images represent a mutual experience that shapes our perceptions. He attempts to control this process by reimagining images that illustrate extreme contrasts of value and meaning so that their significance can be felt and realized. "Irreverent Theater" utilizes media images originally meant to be transient and ephemeral and transforms them into something lasting and substantial. Mark Osterman Mark Osterman received his B.F.A. from the School of Visual Arts and his M.A. at New York University. His work crosses multiple media, including drawing, sculpture, installation, digital collage, and painting. Drawing upon mass media culture and contemporary social issues as a conceptual basis, he has refined his visual and conceptual vocabulary to create open-ended narratives for the viewer to contend with. His work can be found in public and private collections and has been seen in numerous exhibitions. Mr. Osterman has been awarded a Visual Artist Fellowship Grant from the Anolic Foundation, an Artist Access Grant from Miami-Dade Department of Cultural Affairs, and has been an Artist-in-Residence at the Atlantic Center for the Arts. Mark Osterman lives and works in Miami Beach, Florida.
