First Church In Belmont Unitarian Universalist

The First Church in Belmont Unitarian Universalist is a church of over 500 members and friends.

While we come from many different faith backgrounds, we unite in our commitment to the seven Unitarian Universalist Principles.

We welcome you: your whole self, with all your truth.

We offer two worship services each Sunday at 9:00 am and 11:00 am, along with religious education classes for children (preschool through teen). On certain specified Sundays, announced in advance, only one 10:30 am service is offered. Child care is always available. Our social hour after each service is a wonderful way to meet people; our members make a special effort to greet visitors and new parishioners.

Our church community is based upon and reflects the interests, needs and actions of our membership and friends. We are what we want our community to be. Most of the work and fellowship in our church happens behind the scenes, on days other than Sundays. As a faith community, we strive to nurture our members spiritually, welcome diversity, and engage in socially responsible efforts that contribute tangible contributions to the world.

Unitarian Universalists subscribe to no creed or dogma. We encourage the pursuit of personal religious vision. In the love of truth and in the spirit of justice, as described in our Principles, we unite for the worship of God and the service of humanity.

Our heritage includes the Judeo-Christian tradition and the perspectives of the world’s great religions. People from different cultural and religious backgrounds, all types of families, individuals and sexual orientations are welcome. We work to provide multicultural and multigenerational events and celebrations from a variety of faith backgrounds.

Our church year corresponds to some degree to the season. The church year begins with the in-gathering ceremony in September. Our annual meeting caps the year and is usually held in May before the annual church picnic in June. Generally we do not have formal services or religious education programs in the summer, but lay-led gatherings continue.
