VHCB invests in a variety of housing types serving a wide profile of Vermonters. All housing funded by VHCB is affordable to residents with incomes below median. Examples include multi-family rental housing, housing for seniors, service supported housing for persons with special needs, single family homes, inter-generational rental housing developments, new construction, rehabilitation of historic properties, rental and ownership co-ops, etc.
On the conservation side, VHCB invests the majority of its conservation dollars in farmland conservation, matched by federal funds provided through the Natural Resources Conservation Service. Additionally, VHCB supports the restoration of historic community buildings with public use and the conservation of natural areas and recreational lands, forestland, town parks and swimming holes, protecting wildlife habitat and providing public access.
VHCB has administered more than $175 million in federal funding to leverage state investments and to add programs and services such as Healthy Homes, to abate lead paint and other household hazards; AmeriCorps, which brings 25 members to serve with non-profit organizations across the state; and the Vermont Farm and Forest Viability Program, providing business planning and technical assistance to farmers and agriculture and forestry-related businesses.
