The Kent story began in 1927 in the central Iowa farming community of Indianola. It was there that Gage Kent introduced Kent Baby Beef™, the original "Feed Without A Filler," revolutionizing cattle feeding. Before Baby Beef™, most cattle feeds were formulated with little regard for quality or nutrition. Kent Baby Beef™ was manufactured with only superior ingredients and no filler materials, setting a new standard for the industry.
Kent's feed business flourished, and in 1936, he moved his steadily growing company to Muscatine, Iowa, to take advantage of economical Mississippi River transportation.
As the market for Kent products grew, Kent plants were built to meet the demand. Today, Kent operates plants in Altoona, Iowa; Beardstown, Illinois; Columbus, Nebraska; Logansport, Indiana; Marshall, Missouri; Mason, Michigan; Rockford, Illinois; Sioux City, Iowa; and Waterloo, Iowa.
In 1955, Kent purchased the first acres of what is now a 800-acre Product Development Center complex near Muscatine. At this facility, feeding trials are conducted to evaluate ingredients and formulations to improve animal feeding efficiency. Through research, "The Feed Without A Filler" has grown into a complete line of guaranteed products which can be found throughout the Midwest, Northeast, and Mid-Atlantic States.
Through the years, Kent has continued to expand its product offerings and has developed a full line of premium show feeds for livestock exhibition, including products for beef, swine, sheep, goats, horses, poultry, and rabbits.
More than eighty years since Baby Beef™ started it all, Kent remains a leader in the research, development and manufacture of animal nutrition products for swine, beef, and dairy animals. A subsidiary of the Kent Corporation, Kent Nutrition Group remains part of the Kent family-owned network of companies including Grain Processing Corporation and Kent Pet Goup of Muscatine, Iowa, as well as Precision Foods Group, of St. Louis, Missouri.
