In early March 2017, 48 year-old Pat Connors, a prominent restaurateur in Tucson, AZ, knew he wanted a joyful celebration of his life—not a typical sad funeral—as he faced the end stages of stage-4 lung cancer. And he wanted to be there for it, too. He desired an “awake wake,” as he called it, to say goodbye to his family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors at the restaurant he owned. One of his family members asked if this party was a good idea, I was concerned about his endurance and how we were going to pull this off. Calling all nurses, physicians, physician assistants, and other health professionals. Potentially earn 1.0 nursing contact hours at Drexel University College of Nursing and Health Professions on April 26. The presentation will discuss current issues related to physical activity, fitness, and participation in children with special health care needs. This event will be live streamed - registration required.
Presentation Children with special health care needs include children with physical disabilities such as cerebral palsy and those with chronic conditions such as obesity. Children with these conditions often have limited physical activity opportunities, decreased health and fitness and decreased participation in community activities. Technological interventions such as active video games, virtual reality and augmented reality are feasible strategies to promote physical activity, fitness and participation. This presentation will review the evidence on the effectiveness of gaming technology to promote outcomes in pediatric physical therapy and rehabilitation. Target Audience: All professional nurses, physicians, physician assistants, and other health professionals Nursing Contact Hours: 1.0 contact hours will be provided. Outcome: To enable the nurse and other health professionals to increase knowledge on children with special health care needs. Accreditation: Drexel University (DREXEL) College of Nursing and Health Professions, Division of Continuing Nursing Education is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. DREXEL also has provider status with California BRN: Provider #CEP13661. CME Credits: This program is not yet approved for CME credit. Conference organizers plan to request 1.0 hour of AAPA Category 1 CME credit from the Physician Assistant Review Panel. Total number of approved credits yet to be determined. Overall Program Objective: Discuss current issues related to children with special health care needs Requirements for Successful Completion: RN participants must register prior to the program, attend the entire program and complete the online evaluation by the due date to receive nursing contact hours Disclosure Statement: All planners and presenters at nursing continuing education activities are required to disclose to the audience any significant financial relationships with the manufacturer(s) of any commercial products, goods or services. Such disclosures will be made in writing in the course presentation materials.
