Jimmy Kirby of Mount Pleasant, Texas went to be with his Lord and Savior, Friday, August 18, 2017, just one day shy of his 81st birthday. He was born on August 19, 1936 in St. Augustine, Texas to John B. and Marie (Johnsons) Kirby. Jimmy was a member of the Highland Park Baptist Church and the Good Ole’ Boy’s Sunday School Class. He retired from the Texas Department of Transportation in 1993, having been a 40 year employee. Left to cherish his memory are his granddaughter, Kami and her husband Allen Parr of Mount Pleasant, his daughter-in-law, Roxanne Kirby of Mount Pleasant, Texas, and special friend, Evelyn Bryson of Longview, Texas; brother, Bob and his wife Cynthia Kirby of Quitman, Texas; grandchildren, Joyce Keefer of Wickes, Arkansas, Lynnett Lambert of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Julie and Eric Lambert of Conway, Arkansas, Bree and Kenny Williams of Mount Pleasant, Texas, MattBarrett and Doni Barrett; 18 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces. He his reunited in heaven with his parent, his wife, Linda (Graves) Kirby , his son, Keith Kirby and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bessie and Armond Graves. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, August 20, 2017 at the Bates-Cooper-Sloan Chapel. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Mount Pleasant. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 PM Saturday evening at the funeral home.

Melvin Norfleet of Mount Pleasant, Texas passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2017 in Mount Pleasant, Texas at the age of 87 years. He was born in Greenville, Texas to O.R. and Addie (Chambliss) Norfleet on Monday, December 2, 1929. He was affectionately called “Mo” and was a member of the North Jefferson Church of Christ Church in Mount Pleasant; he was a 23 year employee of LTU Aero Systems, he later owned and operated Titus Pump Service from 1971 until November 2007. Mo raised and showed Maine Anjou Cattle, having received International Grand Champion Bull in 1984 in Denver, Colorado and National Champion Female in 1985 at Louisville, Kentucky. He is survived by his wife Betty Norfleet of Mount Pleasant, Texas; their children, Monty and Susan Norfleet, Michael and Tina Norfleet all of Mount Pleasant, Texas and Barbara Shook of Royce City, Texas; 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Joe, Bradford and J.T. Norfleet, and 3 sisters, Mae Norfleet, Pearl Head and Bernice Jones. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the Chapel at Bates-Cooper-Sloan Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Nevills Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 Friday evening at the funeral home.

Jerrod Bradford Young of Mount Pleasant, Texas passed away, Saturday, July 29, 2017 in Burnett County, Texas. He was born March 30, 1981 in Mount Pleasant, Texas to Stephen Bradford and Jovanna Gail (Baze) Young. Jerrod was a computer programmer and graduated from Mount Pleasant High School. He leaves his parents, his two children, Jordan Bradford Young of Mount Pleasant, Texas and Kaylee Ciara Young of Dallas, Texas; brothers, Terrance and his wife Brittany Young of Wolfe City, Texas, Bryan and his wife Debbie Creed also of Wolfe City, Texas; sister, Brandi and husband William Sawyer of Tyler, Texas; and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Jerrod will be held 10:00 AM Thursday, August 3, 2017 in the chapel at Bates-Cooper-Sloan Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Nevills Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

Bobbie Ruth Brown Temples Freeman of Mount Pleasant, Texas passed away Friday, July 28, 2017 in Tyler, Texas. She was born August 13, 1931 in Talco, Texas to Edmond Douglas and Mattie Irene (Alsobrook) Brown. Bobbie was a member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church and a retired nurse’s aide. She is survived by her children, Patsy and Johnny Carnes of Mount Pleasant, Paula Temples of Mount Pleasant, Texas, JoDee and Ervin Parrie of Talco, Texas, Kathey and Rodger Collins of Hughes Springs, Texas and Timothy Temples of Ohio; 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren; one brother, Johnny Mac Brown of Mount Pleasant, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Curtis Temples and LeRoy Freeman. Graveside service will be held at 9:00 AM Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at the Bridges Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Howard S. Harper of Mount Pleasant, Texas passed away Thursday, July 27, 2017 at 93 years of age. He was born April 1st, 1924 in Mount Vernon, Texas to Argus Eugene and Clemele (Jackson) Harper. Howard’s parents passed away on the same day in 1933 leaving him and his sibling to be raised by their grandparents, T. A. and Illa Mae Jackson. He honorably served in the War from 1943- 1946 in the United States Army. He married the love of his life, Marjorie Gore on July 17, 1949. Howard worked in the oil field the first few years he and Margie were married, and then settled in the Pleasant Grove Community to raise their family and attend church at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He was employed by Lone Star Steel for some 14 years. Howard raised chickens for Pilgrim’s, cattle and was a “True Cowboy”. Howard worked hard and believed in living right. He made business deals with a “Hand Shake” and you knew that was his word. He spoke frequently of how proud he was of his family and loved serving them and the community. He served on the Chapel Hill School board and was the main board member that voted to keep Chapel Hill a country school rather than consolidate with the Mount Pleasant School District. Howard was a calf roper and was a major part of forming the Mount Pleasant Rodeo Association and the Mount Pleasant Jr. Quadrille. He attended the weekly cattle sale and loved studying the cattle market and watching a good rodeo and his Dallas Cowboys. Left to cherish his memory are his three children, Randy and Maude Harper, Gary Don Harper and Denise Reichert; three grandchildren, Miranda Anderson, Maegan Reichert and Michael Reichert; 2 great grandchildren, Melanie and Noah Anderson. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 67 years, Margie Harper and his siblings, Thomas, Billy, Martha Lou, and a special relative Bobbie Ruth Giddens. A Graveside service is scheduled for 10:00 AM Saturday, July 29, 2017 at the Center Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
