At Tippecanoe, our members truly belong!
Tippecanoe Country Club is so much more than a golf and social club. And yet, we are a supreme example of a private club!
Like so many country clubs, we began as a golf course – the realization of a dream, three-quarters of a century ago, of a small group of players whose links activity was confined to the nine-hole Poland Country Club in Boardman and whose wish was to own an 18-hole golf course.
They formed a corporation, named it the Tippecanoe Country Club, and determinedly set about making that dream come true with the 1927 purchase of an 185-acre farm in Canfield. They had their 18-hole course. The following year, they got even more serious: they elected officers, and they hired a golf pro – at $150 a month.
Of course the stock market crash and the Great Depression cost them their dream – for a while. The property was lost through foreclosure, but rescued by a group of merchants. Tippecanoe Country Club was in business again, this time for good, even through a 1983 fire that swept through the clubhouse but couldn’t destroy the dream.
The determination that formed “Tippy,” and that kept it vibrant during its various trials, burns as brightly today as it did those many years ago. With our eyes firmly on the horizon, we greet the future with enthusiasm and energy.
We are a private club, yes – but we are also a family. We are a family with shared values, a family that enjoys togetherness. We play together, we celebrate together, we have fun together. We plan activities that bring our families to our clubhouse, inside and out. Golf tournaments, clambakes, holiday functions for young and old – we’re always looking to the next event!
We are respectful of our heritage, appreciative of our present-day circumstance, and eager for the future. Consider joining us. Our friendships last a lifetime!
