Founded in 1977 by sea urchin diver Dave Rudie, Catalina Offshore Products was once exclusively a sea urchin wholesaler in both domestic sales and exports to Asia. Today we are one of Southern California’s premier seafood purveyors and San Diego’s only exporter of sea urchin (uni).
As a primary receiver of fresh fish and shellfish, we specialize mainly in wild species found along the West Coast, from Baja and Southern California up into the Pacific Northwest. We also strategically source responsibly farmed fish from around the world, such as Baja Seas Hiramasa and Mt. Cook Alpine Salmon. Nearly 75% of the seafood we sell is sustainable, and much of that is sushi grade.
In 2012, we expanded by opening our Seafood Education and Nutrition Center featuring a walk-in fish market and demo kitchen. Here you will find Tommy Gomes – our trusted fishmonger, who thanks to his passion, industry knowledge and community involvement, is one of San Diego’s most recognized faces.
