North Carolina Baptists on Mission took a disaster relief laundry trailer to a neighborhood devastated by Hurricane Harvey flood waters in Port Arthur, TX. Sitting the unit up on a church parking lot, volunteers from North Carolina washed, dried and folded laundry dropped off by storm survivors. On their first day, the volunteers did 25 laundry loads. Judy Stone of Lumberton said survivors were excited to have their laundry done. When survivors pick up their clean laundry they find it neatly folded in bags decorated with hand-drawn pictures and scripture verses. Patricia Wright of Whiteville explained, “If Jesus were here, this is what He would be doing. We pray with the people and listen to their stories.” Frances Anderson of Lumberton, and Willis Hamlet of Elon also were helping with the laundry ministry.
