The Alden Depot and the Helena Township Historical Society

The Alden Train Depot is a focal point for activities in the town of Alden. It houses a historical museum with memorabilia of the community from the late 19th and early 20th century when the Pere Marquette railroad steamed through town. The restored 1908 depot sits on the shores of Torch Lake and has transformed itself into a beautiful park with benches, volleyball and sitting areas overlooking the water. Volunteers have done an amazing job bringing the history back to life. There is an old engine with a flat car that has been converted into a stage followed by the traditional red caboose, which is also open to visitors during museum hours. Train lovers of all ages will also enjoy the model railroad exhibit within the depot.

The museum is open to visitors from Memorial Day through Labor Day on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 1-4 pm. Admission is free, although donations are encouraged. The facility also hosts an annual quilt show, a late summer art fair, and a model railroad show for three consecutive weekends in August. Arrangements can also be made to use the facility for special events.
