Founded in 1984, Habitat for Humanity of Omaha is a grassroots organization that builds and renovates houses, forges community partnerships and breaks down barriers. Habitat Omaha partners with families in need of safe and affordable places to raise their children. We eliminate vacant lots and abandoned homes in the blighted areas of North and South Omaha while improving the overall appearance of our community. We mobilize thousands of donors and volunteers every year in this mission, building a stronger, more socially conscious community.
Habitat Omaha partners with families who have incomes that are 30 to 60 percent of median in the Omaha area. Our homeowners are required to complete up to 350 hours of sweat equity before purchasing their homes through 20- to 30-year affordable mortgages. Since 1984, Habitat Omaha has partnered with more than 1,350 families in our community to provide opportunities for homeownership, home repairs and neighborhood revitalization.
In 2017, Habitat Omaha will build or renovate more than 40 homes.
