June 8, 2017 AUGUSTA PLAYERS BOARD OF DIRECTORS ANNOUNCES THE HIRING OF SCOTT SEIDL AS NEW EXECUTIVE AND ARTISTIC DIRECTOR After an extensive national search, the Board of Directors of the Augusta Players has announced that Scott Seidl will become the Players’ new Executive and Artistic Director on September 1, 2017. Seidl will replace Debi Ballas, who announced her retirement in September after leading the Players for 19 seasons. Seidl, originally from Los Angeles, is an accomplished director, choreographer, playwright, composer, educator and fundraiser. He taught at the University of Wisconsin and is a member of the Dramatists Guild and Society of Directors and Choreographers. His work has included award-winning productions off Broadway and in National tours. “I am truly honored to be a part of the incredible work going on at the Augusta Players,” Seidl said. “Continuing the tremendous growth and excellence of the past twenty years is a responsibility I do not take lightly. I will have my eyes focused on nurturing the vision of Debi Ballas, my ears open to the voices of all, and my heart determined to work tirelessly for and with the Augusta theatre community.” Dr. Karla Leeper, Chair of the Board of Directors, praised the Board’s hard work during this process and indicated that the strong reputation of the Augusta Players was crucial in finding the right leadership. “Because of the quality of the productions and the commitment of our community to the arts, we were able to attract a very talented pool of applicants from across the country. The Board was committed to finding a candidate who would maintain the high bar that Debi Ballas has set during her tenure, who would continue our commitment to theater education for young people, and who would be a good fit for our community. I think we have found the right person to take the Augusta Players to the next level,” said Leeper. "I couldn’t be more pleased with the Board’s decision to hire Scott Seidl, and look forward to working together to ensure a smooth transition, as he assumes his role as the new Executive and Artistic Director for the Augusta Players.” Ballas said. “With his passion for musical theatre, along with his broad experience artistically and as an arts educator and administrator, I am confident he will build on the momentum we have generated and lead the Augusta Players to new and exciting heights." The Augusta Players have another exciting season planned for 2017-18. The upcoming season includes Oliver, A Christmas Carol, Sister Act, and The Little Mermaid. Season ticket renewals have already begun and tickets will go on sale to the general public on July 1. “I encourage everyone who loves musical theater to join us this season to welcome Scott to Augusta and to his journey with the Players,” Leeper said.

Our sincerest and deepest condolences go out to the Ballas family as they mourn the loss of Chuck Ballas, father-in-law to our Executive and Artistic Director, Debi Ballas. Mr. Ballas was a downtown staple for anyone who dined at Luigi's since 1954, when he took over for his father. Mr. Ballas loved his family beyond measure--a family most of us have been honored to be "adopted" into through our involvement with the Augusta Players. Thank you, Chuck for your many years and contributions to the culture of downtown Augusta. May his memory be eternal!

Camp Wonderland is a summer arts camp tailored specifically to the unique interests and needs of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder between the ages 7-16. The program will be led by a team of artists, administrators, and special education teachers dedicated to creating a safe, welcoming and comfortable environment for children affected by autism. The camp will offer an enriching theater experience through music, movement, art, and drama, that encourages self-expression, social-engagement, creative exploration, and above all, fun! We believe that all children should have the opportunity to experience live theater and performance. It is important to us to give these kids an outlet of expression on their terms, allowing them to explore their gifts, meet friends, and ultimately, have a great time! All kids ages 7-16 who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder are invited to join the fun for this two week camp beginning June 19. Camp will be held at New Hope Worship Center from 8:30-12:30 June 19-30. There will be a parent performance at 12:30 on the 30th so you can see your budding stars perform!
