:::Who we are::: Operation Bootstrap Africa is a national grass-roots non-profit that partners with communities in Tanzania and Madagascar to help educate their children. Grounded in a “self-help” philosophy, Bootstrap works in partnership with local groups, uses local resources and follows local priorities to improve the education of Africa’s children.
Begun in 1965 to help build primary schools in remote villages, Bootstrap today supports a broad range of educational programs for some of the world’s poorest children, from helping to build classrooms, to paying teachers, to fostering tomorrow’s leaders through college and university scholarships. Since 1995 Bootstrap has supported girls’ education though a first-of-its kind residential school for girls of the Maasai and other semi-nomadic people in Tanzania. Today 275 girls from impoverished backgrounds are part of this nurturing, supportive educational community.
Every day thousands of children and young people attend a school Bootstrap helped build, study under a teacher Bootstrap helps pay, or work toward a brighter future for themselves, their families and their communities through a Bootstrap scholarship.
