Community Against Violence Thrift Store

PROGRESS IS POSSIBLE AND REAL
For many years individuals and families from throughout Taos County have supported the CAV Thrift Store knowing that gently used household items and clothing help our clients and provide much needed funding for the continuation of our services.
The February 1, 2010 opening of our new store at 1103 Paseo del Pueblo Sur serves as a concrete example of how imagining some new possibility, wanting and working for something better and committing the time, money and energy to this vision can make it real.
To begin, we worked with what we had: a need to provide clients with the basics for setting up a safe place to be; a community willing to give whatever was needed; donated storage space and a dream of something better.
We planned, as we ask our clients to plan. We imagined a clean, new space. We gathered financial support and asked for help from technical experts who mentored us through the design and construction process. We accounted for changes in the economy and went through a variety of re-design phases. We asked for and received volunteer assistance on so many levels. You, our loyal supporters, would not let us give up hope.
Today, where there used to be a dilapidated building, there is a bright new store. It grew from that first vague hope. It became a clear vision that was realized through careful planning, thousands of volunteer hours, and thousands of donated dollars. It stands as a reminder that no matter how bad things look, change is possible.
Did you know that the CAV Thrift Store also provides the basics for others in need? Each month we give away hundreds of dollars worth of your donations to people who have lost homes in fires, people who are without homes at all and of course to the victims of domestic and sexual violence who are struggling to start fresh, safe lives.
On behalf of all these clients, the CAV Staff, Board and volunteers, thank you for making the new CAV Thrift Store a reality.
