The most important things come first…our people and our culture. Touchstone is built from a group of people that are aligned on growing individually. Many years ago, through the influence of a great friend and mentor, we shifted our business philosophy and understanding. We struggled, like many companies and business leaders do, on how to find that magical equation of business growth and success. For me personally (and really extended to our business) this came through the example of an inspirational business (owned and grown by a great friend and mentor). We really were great thieves of their culture and I couldn’t sponge things up fast enough.
The critical lesson is while we were focused on how “the business” would grow, we lost sight of our people. It is simple and obvious, especially in hindsight… If our people don’t grown, how will our business grow? Well, we adopted their core rally cry and live it every day… “Businesses Don’t Grow, People Do!” From there, every move we make, culturally, is intentional and filled with like minded people.
