Out with the old and in with the new! We were out at Del Mar High on Saturday, replacing our own work from 13 years ago. John's new, sleeker design includes high contrast colors, crisp-looking fonts and a hand-painted rendering of the Del Mar Don. Many thanks to Steve Scally for being our assistant on the install, and to a friendly dad who helped get the sign anchored. Thanks also to Joe Keeling of Cardinal Paints and the folks at Master Metals, both in San Jose, for their help in painting and fabbing, respectively. Click through for the usual behind-the-scenes shots.

This is how sign experts see a car show - LOL! And we also saw some very nice rides as we strolled through the Good Guys show in Pleasanton, sipping something cool on Sunday's sunny afternoon.

The Art Works team had a very "uplifting" weekend! It began on Friday when we spent time hanging out over the entrance to Suddath installing new letters on their building. We had the letters cut from 2", 15 lb. High Density Urethane foam. We painted them and affixed studs to the backs. We made a pattern of where those studs were so John could drill holes in the wall, then we used industrial strength caulking to glue each letter in place. While at Suddath, we wandered over to check out the monument sign we'd made & installed earlier. That one features laser cut acrylic letters over a custom metal "can" and is installed over pipes in the ground. On Saturday, John & Theresa grabbed their patterns and brushes and headed back to Hoover Middle School to give the gym there its long-awaited, hand-painted identity. Hard as they tried, they couldn't finish both walls in one day so John was back on Sunday to add some finishing touches. That's elevating customer service - and sign painting - to a higher level!

On the first day of school next Wednesday, students who come through the front door of Hoover Middle School will have this view. And everyone, of course, will be passing through the main hallway in one direction or another! Our wall dogs put in two solid days filling in their pattern, then John spent another day with block shadows and hawk details. Art Works thanks Guido Nagle of Bullseye Signs for his reliable, invaluable help. We wish the students and staff at Hoover great success in the upcoming academic year.

So THAT'S what 40 feet of lettering looks like! Our "wall dogs" are out at Hoover Middle School painting a mural in the main entrance hallway and Theresa captured some shots while the guys transferred the pattern from paper to wall. Did you know that a pattern transferred to a wall like this is called a cartoon? Stay tuned to see how our experts filled in all those lines.
