Creating photographic portraits is my passion: portraits that capture the heart and soul of the individual, images that reflect the unique character of architectural spaces, whether monumental or intimate, photographs designed to captivate one’s attention for advertising and commercial objectives, and fine art photography that portrays the soothing subtlety of nature’s wonder, playing with color and form to reflect calm and contentment.
In business since 1980, my early career as a professional photographer focused primarily on portraiture of families and children, gradually expanding to include special places, spontaneous moments in time and elements in nature. Longtime an event photographer, architectural and commercial photography are recent newcomers to my bag of tricks, and I am finding a real affinity for them.
My first loves were Kodachrome 25 and Tri-X film. In 2007 I moved to digital capture. I enjoy the flexibility it gives me to process the images and create archival prints from my desktop. I do so with minimal manipulation because I prefer simple, direct images that are true to the color and shapes I photograph. I love using long lenses for their ability to create a shallow depth of field and provide soft backgrounds which places the emphasis on the subject. Likewise, they allow me to capture details: a single face or a piece of a plant to fill the frame.
