Over the past few weeks, you've learned about high school seniors Olivia, Vicki, and Morgan, who attend schools in Glastonbury and Simsbury through the Hartford Region Open Choice Program. Open Choice is pleased to share that these scholars are the 2017 recipients of the Mary Carroll-Kennedy Scholarship and Marjorie Little Book Award! These financial awards were announced at CREC's Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony on May 17. Families who participate in Open Choice's Summer Academy and Credit Recovery programs fund these awards through a nominal fee, which allowed the program to provide a total of $5,000 to these deserving young women. Way to go, ladies! University of Chicago, Georgetown, and University of Hartford are proud to welcome you.

Granby Memorial High School students recently enjoyed a day at The Strain Family Equestrian Center, LLC, located in Southwick, MA! Through the Hartford Region Open Choice program, several students had their first up-close and personal interaction with these majestic creatures.Students were exposed to several drills and even learned how to groom the horses. This was not your typical field trip experience! Pictured here is Keon L., an Open Choice participant who has been part of Granby Public Schools since 7th grade.
