Master Shim’s Black Belt Academy was founded on November 2nd, 1998 by Master Kyu Jin Shim. Master Shim came to Lexington Park at the behest of one of his friends, who lived in the area. At the time, there were few Tae Kwon Do schools in Southern Maryland.
Fewer still were any schools of the professional quality that Master Shim envisioned, so he began the first Black Belt Academy. He put into effect his method of a modern approach to training with an emphasis on the values of traditional martial arts. This formula created the most successful Do Jang in it’s area.
Today Black Belt Academy has one of the largest student bodies in Southern Maryland. We have a number of children’s and educational programs. We are actively involved in the community and we even provide a Before and After-School Program with transportation for parents who need, or want an alternative to daycare.
