Family owned and operated with an extensive knowledge of animal care. The Prouty have been caring for animals in Walnut Creek since the early 1950s. Jeanne and Jay Prouty owned pet shops on Locust St. where their residents ranged from snakes to spider monkeys. From the 1960s through the 1970s they were raising and showing Standard Poodles and Jeanne is still very active in the Bay Area Poodle Club. From the 1970s to today, the Prouty's raise and show Persian Cats. With several Champions and Grand Champion cats and dogs to their credit, they now focus on the care of other's animals. They have owned 2818 North Main Street since 1970 and decided to build a boarding kennel on the site by the late 1980s. In designing the facility, they interviewed and visited many kennels throughout the US. As a result, the North Main Pet Lodge opened its doors in 1992 and has become a premier boarding facility.
A Bay Area Consumer's Magazine recently rated them the "Top Kennel in the East Bay." Son and daughter in-law, Chris and Colleen Prouty, are currently the proprietors.
