Originally founded by Nebraska WWII veterans in agriculture-based areas of study, AgMen was founded at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1953. The local fraternity eventually strayed from the agricultural emphasis and began welcoming students of all majors, and soon adopted the name Alpha Gamma Nu (AGN).
Alpha Gamma Nu was refounded in 2014 with the goal of striving beyond the typical fraternity and being a leader in the UNL Greek system. The alumni and refounding classes have made great progress and continue to work tirelessly in creating innovations in recruiting, community service, campus impact, and values-based development not yet seen in more traditional fraternities. The chapter has had huge success in all of these areas, and continuously explores and pursues new initiatives to improve and enrich the lives of AGN members, the UNL student body, and the Lincoln community as a whole.
The unique recruitment and selection process adopted in 2014 has lead the chapter to grow from 25 members to 65+ in just under two years by meeting and recruiting only those who are regarded as top-quality gentlemen and student leaders at the University.
