Dr Norm's Faith Booster this week is - YOU CAN BE A SUCCESS! You may have heard the joke about the old Australian man who was given a brand new boomerang for Christmas. Unfortunately he nearly went crazy trying to throw his old boomerang away. Life can be like that sometimes. Have you ever tried to throw away an old bad habit or a self-defeating addiction? You must be persistent and consistent if you are to achieve any success. Think about some of these famous people who were very successful: Walt Disney was fired by a newspaper editor for lack of ideas. Walt also went bankrupt several times before he built Disneyland. Leo Tolstoy, author of War and Peace, flunked out of college and was described as both unable and unwilling to learn. Michael Jordan, perhaps one of the greatest basketball players of all time, didn't make his high school basketball team his sophomore [second] year. Beethoven’s teacher called him hopeless as a composer. Winston Churchill failed the sixth grade and become Prime Minister until he was 62. His greatest contributions came when he was a senior citizen. Henry Ford failed and went broke five times before he finally succeeded. It's true that WINNERS NEVER QUIT AND QUITTERS NEVER WIN! God sees no limits for you today. Jeremiah 32:27 I am the Lord, the God of every person on the earth. Nothing is impossible for me. Sometimes it’s overwhelming to think about everything God has done for us, His people. We can always find things to get angry, disappointed or confused about, but God has blessed us in many ways and He doesn’t plan on stopping! God wants to open doors for you that no man can shut, His infinite power has no limit. God wants to shower you with blessings and nothing can stop Him. Expect big things from God, because He is all-powerful and He loves you! Even so some people are just worriers. I know people who would win the world championship at worrying. They worry if they have nothing to worry about. Do you realise that: - Today is the tomorrow we worried about yesterday. Worry is gathering bundles of twigs to build bridges you will never cross. If worrying were an Olympic sport, most Christians would get the gold medal. When we pray for truth and genuinely mean it, God always answers. Once we see the truth (cause) of our problem, we usually know what we need to do about resolving it. As God's Word says in Psalm 145:18 The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. Get a deeper hunger for God's Word. 1 Peter 2:2 Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment. Perhaps your daily Bible reading has become more like duty than desire? God says, "Crave pure spiritual milk… that… you may grow." This word crave means 'asking earnestly, longing eagerly, feeling in great need of.' So here are some suggestions to help you hunger for The Word: 1. Ask God to meet you in the Scriptures. As you read expect Him to show up. Remember, your goal is to build a relationship, not turn in a book report! Matthew 4:17 The kingdom of heaven is at hand. As you read become aware that Jesus is present. Ask Him to wash your mind - even if the cleanser stings a bit. Expect to be moved by His love for you, convicted of some sin or prompted to make changes in your life. 2. Read your Bible with an expectant heart. Be vulnerable! What you're after isn't information but transformation. Being unchanged by your Bible is worse than having no Bible at all! Jesus said in John 15:3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. 3. Meditate on a brief passage or a word. This may mean adjusting your attitude from getting through the Bible to hearing God speak to you. Success isn't in the number of pages you read; God doesn't have a big behaviour modification chart on His refrigerator and each time you read another chapter you get another gold star. Your goal is not to get through the Scriptures, it's to get the Scriptures through you! If you're serious about deepening your hunger for God's Word, take a moment and re-read today's MID WEEK FAITH BOOSTER several times until it sinks into your spirit. I hope you enjoyed this weeks teaching. Have a wonderful week and be blessed. Dr Norm's NORMality this week - THINK SUCCESS! I want to give you seven ways to THINK SUCCESS from my Leadership Manual which is available from this office or my website. I suggest you write the seven thoughts out on separate 3 x 5 flash cards, there is one for each day of the week. Carry them with you and during your day spend some time meditating and confessing them and thinking about them seriously. CARD 1. I THINK CONSTRUCTIVELY! Destructive thoughts tend to destroy me and other people around me. When I worry I do myself more harm. Instead of worrying, I think, "The Father in me knows exactly what to do and how to do it. So I trust in His perfect power within me in the Name of Jesus." On the reverse side of the card write this Scripture: - Philippians 4:8 "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." CARD 2. I THINK AFFIRMATIVELY! Instead of railing at life and condemning myself, I now think affirmatively. Railing and condemning only tears down. Affirmative thinking builds up. I now look at the Life that I live and affirm. "It is good; I love and bless The Lord within me." On the reverse side of the card write this Scripture: - Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! CARD 3. I THINK POSITIVELY! Instead of thinking what a gloomy or wasted day it may be, I think of it as being beautiful, highly productive and good. "This is a new day; I live today with enthusiasm and joy. I know that all things are working together for my good." On the reverse side of the card write this Scripture: - Psalm 37:4 Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. CARD 4. I THINK RIGHT THOUGHTS! When I am tempted to think critical or mean thoughts I turn to The Greater One within me for direction. "He knows the right thoughts for me to think in my life. I praise Him for His mind thinking through me." On the reverse side of the card write this Scripture: - 1 Corinthians 2:16 Living Bible ...But, strange as it seems, we Christians actually do have within us a portion of the very thoughts and mind of Christ. CARD 5. I THINK TRUTH! Through the five senses it is difficult sometimes to discern what is true and what is false. "For a long time men thought the earth was flat! Truth now shows me that is not so! I have The Truth within me all the time. He knows what I don't know and He shows me by His Spirit." On the reverse side of the card write this Scripture: - John 7:24 Stop judging by mere appearances and make a righteous judgment. CARD 6. I THINK GOOD REPORTS! I refuse to accept false reports about anyone. "If I cannot say anything good I will say nothing at all. I do not think on sickness, misfortune, tragedy or any other negative force in my mind. Instead I turn my thoughts to perfect divine health, good fortune, prosperity, blessing, right action and Divine love. I thank God for the privilege He gives me to think this way." On the reverse side of the card write this Scripture: - Proverbs 23:7 For as a man thinks in his heart, so is he. CARD 7. I THINK PEACE! There are no thoughts of anger or violence or conflict within me. "I turn to God and His wonderful peace within me. His peace sustains me." On the reverse side of the card write these Scriptures: - Isaiah 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Colossians 3:1-3 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. Dr Norm's Faith Booster this week - HOW IS YOUR EYESIGHT? 1 Kings 18:21 And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, "How long halt ye between two opinions? If the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him." And the people answered him not a word. Matthew 14:22-33 Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away. 23 And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there. 24 But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary. 25 Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. 26 And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear. 27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.”28 And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You command me to come to You on the water.”29 So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. 30 But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” 31 And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” 32 And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. 33 Then those who were in the boat came and worshiped Him, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God.” This message is powerful and relevant today. I hope you enjoy it! So many songs have been written and so many sermons preached about Jesus walking on the water, probably more than any other miracle Jesus performed during His three-year ministry. One of the outstanding features of this incident is Peter walking on the water but ultimately sinking, only to be rescued by Jesus and helped back into the boat. Frequently, I've heard it said, “As long as Peter had his eyes on Jesus he was all right. When he stopped looking at Jesus and started to look at the water, that’s when he began to sink.” Some preachers imply it is an either or situation. Peter either looked to Jesus in faith or he looked at the water in fear. This has been very much the normal explanation given. Verse 31 And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” A closer look at a key word 'doubt' opens up the incident to an overlooked fact of simultaneous double vision. The word 'doubt' here is the Greek word 'distazo.' 'Dis' is double 'stazo' from 'statis' meaning 'standing or status'. So distazo means 'standing in two ways'. It also means 'standing and looking where two ways come together.' Peter was actually looking AT Jesus AND also AT the boisterous waves simultaneously. His gaze wasn’t going back and forward between Jesus and the waves. Peter had one eye upon Jesus and one eye upon the stormy waves. Distazo was used by Jesus to remind Peter that he began to sink because he was pulled apart by double vision. Peter was seeing two opposites at the same time with the same gaze. James 1:5-8 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. Many Christians do this a lot. They believe they are focusing their eyes on Jesus then a problem comes or they get tired of waiting and they still look to the Lord, but one eye is on the problem the other on Jesus. Then uncertainty comes in and with it, the doubt, fear, and confusion. Twenty-twenty vision is the technical term for equality in eyesight. When I joined the police force in Northern Ireland almost 60 years ago, I had 20/20 vision. Anything less was not acceptable in those early days, but times have changed. It means both eyes functioning in a harmonious pairing of vision. The Lord can help us with our spiritual vision to be 20/20. Distazo is 'divided focus.' Jesus, by His Spirit, unites our sight faculties so that we may concentrate our gaze directly upon Him at all times, rather than looking two ways at Him and the problem. As many Australians say we must become one-eyed! Dr Norm's NORMality - KEEP STANDING! When you have gained some ground over the enemy in your daily experience, learn to hold on to it and don't slip back again. Ephesians 6:10-13 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. In these verses Paul is using a metaphor based on the armour of a heavily armed soldier of his day. His intent is to show us we are engaged in a real battle, with a real enemy. But the outcome is already guaranteed as we have the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ and His completed work of Calvary, His ascension and heavenly seating. 1 Cor 15:57 But thanks be to God, which gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Cor 2:14 Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. The warfare we are engaged in is aggressively trying to keep the victory and authority from us what has already been won, and appropriated, and given to us by Jesus Christ. Col 2:13-15 13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the un-circumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it. We maintain our victory and authority by putting on the WHOLE armour of God and KEEPING it on, because the warfare as I said, is not against physical forces but against invisible spiritual forces of the enemy. Eph 6:12 Again, For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Luke 10:19 Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. If you keep standing you will eventually demonstrate the victory you already have in the Spirit. Norman We will have our Holy Ghost inspired service TODAY May 14, 2017 from 10.30am to 12.00pm with Worship and a good Word. Dr Norm's Faith Booster today is - GOD HAS ALREADY PLANNED YOUR VICTORY! When the circumstances around you seem to be contrary, don't be moved by fear of what might happen, but move on in faith in what God says in His Word. Malachi 3:6 I am the Lord and I change not! Hebrews 13:8 The Lord Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today and forever! So Father God and Jesus are always the same, that means God's Word is always the same. For God to change His Word, He would have to change and that is not possible. If He did change everything would collapse because He holds everything in place by the power or integrity of His Word. Psalm 112:1-10 Praise the Lord! How joyful are those who fear the Lord and delight in obeying his commands. 2 Their children will be successful everywhere; an entire generation of godly people will be blessed. 3 They themselves will be wealthy and their good deeds will last forever. 4 Light shines in the darkness for the godly. They are generous, compassionate, and righteous. 5 Good comes to those who lend money generously and conduct their business fairly. 6 Such people will not be overcome by evil. Those who are righteous will be long remembered. 7 They do not fear bad news; they confidently trust the Lord to care for them. 8 They are confident and fearless and can face their foes triumphantly. 9 They share freely and give generously to those in need. Their good deeds will be remembered forever. They will have influence and honor. 10 The wicked will see this and be infuriated. They will grind their teeth in anger; they will slink away, their hopes thwarted. You can be strong and know that God's Word is still the same so don't be moved by the circumstances. God is not going to leave you or desert you. He has promised to stay with you, so be strong and boldly declare God is making a way for me right through this situation! Proverbs 16:3 Commit your actions to the Lord and your plans will succeed. God already has a plan for your success. Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In Christ you have what it takes to be successful. Joshua 1:8 Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. Ephesians 3:20 Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. YES YOU CAN WIN!
