In a classroom at The Glen you see children of different ages each working at their own pace with materials they have selected. They may choose to work alone or with others. The directress relies on her observations of the children to determine which new activities and materials she should introduce to an individual child or to a small or large group. Her aim is to encourage active, self-directed learning and to strike a balance of individual mastery with small group collaboration within the classroom community.
