OUR STUDIO

The Dance Attic studio has a very convenient location. There is plenty of parking and drop off and pick up is easy. There is an office and message center in the front to obtain information or get the latest updates on events or activities. The spacious lobby has a one-way viewing window into the studio for observing the dancers as they dance and rehearse.

A dressing room equipped with benches and cubbies is available for storage of dancer's belongings during class.

The Dance Attic offers 3 dance floors with flexible wooden floors which are great for dancing.


HISTORY OF THE DANCE ATTIC

The Dance Attic first opened in 1988 in Rolesville, NC and relocated to Wake Forest, NC in September of 2000.

The owner, Wanda Lynam Percise, is a Wake Forest native. She went to Wake Forest-Rolesville Senior High School where she was very involved with the school and was a cheerleader. She also traveled to Enloe Senior High School for classes in the Magnet Dance Program.

When she graduated, she went to East Carolina University, performed in many dance theatres and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Dance. After graduation from ECU, Wanda returned to the area to open her own studio.

Cory Hunt
Company Director/Choreographer/Dance Instructor (all ages)

Cory Hunt began her dance training in her hometown of Hillsborough, NC. She danced and competed throughout grade school and high school. She continued her dance education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where she was a member of the university’s nationally ranked dance team as well as a member of the Carolina Style Jazz Company. She began teaching dance when she was in college. Cory is a talented choreographer and has received numerous awards for her choreography at dance competitions such as Encore DCS, Starpower, and Star Talent. Many of her routines have also won high honors, including 1st place overall high scores at Nationals. Cory continues her own training through workshops and conventions under the direction of some of today’s most talented teachers and choreographers.


Rachel Teem
Assistant Company Director/Choreographer/Dance Instructor (all ages)

Rachel Teem is a Wake Forest native and began her dance education at the Dance Attic. In May 2009 she graduated from Elon University with a BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography. While at Elon, Rachel was a member of the Elon Dance Company and had the privilege of performing works of several applauded choreographers including Lauren Kearns, Jane Wellford, Linda Sabo, Amy Beasley, Lila York, Rebecca Hutchins, Gene Medler, Nina Wheeler, and Ava Vinisett. Rachel has also performed at adjudication concerts at the American College Dance Festival at the University of Mississippi in 2007 and Goucher College in 2008. Rachel was co-director of Elon University’s all tap show, “Tapped Out”, in 2008 and 2009 as well as a performer and choreographer. Rachel is currently the assistant director of the internationally renowned North Carolina Youth Tap Ensemble under the direction of tap master Gene Medler. She is also a member of Footnotes Tap Ensemble.


Kai Hinkey
Advanced Ballet Instructor

Kai Hinkey graduated Magna Cum Laude from Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ with a Bachelor of Arts degree specializing in dance in 1995. She has taught many dance styles including ballet, modern, and lyrical at studios in New Jersey, Colorado, California, and North Carolina. She has also choreographed and danced for dance companies across the country. Kai has won numerous awards for her choreography as well as high scores at regional and national dance competitions. She has a passion to instill a love and knowledge of dance into every student, regardless of their natural ability. She wants to inspire, educate, and lead students toward excellence while creating an environment where they feel free to express themselves and their talents.


Allison Eakes
Advanced Ballet Instructor

Allison is a native of Cary, North Carolina where she was classically trained in ballet from a young age. From the age of 12, she attended prestigious summer ballet intensives including North Carolina School of the Arts, Boston Ballet, and Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet. She also had the opportunity to take master classes at New World School of the Arts, Miami City Ballet, and Broadway Dance Center in New York during her time as a student. Allison studied many years with Debra Austin and Marin Boieru, the ballet masters of Carolina ballet, and participated in several Carolina Ballet performances throughout high school. She is a 2008 graduate of the College of Textiles at North Carolina State University and currently works full-time at SAS in Human Resources in Cary. In addition to teaching at the Dance Attic, she is also a faculty member and choreographer for Carolina Dance Center in Raleigh.


Jody Long
Acro instructor (beginners to intermediate)

Jody Long has been involved with gymnastics for over 40 years both as a participant and as a coach. She began her career in gymnastics as a competitor and was the Turner National Floor and Beam Champion in 1972. She has continued in gymnastics as a coach, coaching all levels from beginner to nationally ranked elite. Jody has been with the Dance Attic for 4 years as an acro instructor and has a passion for challenging children to reach their potential.


Agnes W. Wanman
Middle Eastern Dance Instructor (belly dancing)

Also known as Ehediya, Agnes Wanman has been dancing for nearly 30 years. She was a member of the Oasis Tapestry Middle Eastern Dance Troupe and also served as its director. When the troupe disbanded in 1999, she spent time teaching Middle Eastern dance through various Recreation and Parks departments. In 2005 she and a number of her students organized the Gypsy Oasis Middle Eastern Dance Troupe which performs around the Wake Forest area. Ehediya teaches Middle Eastern Dance at the Dance Attic’s studio but is not affiliated with the Dance Attic.


Brittany Faison
Choreographer

Brittany Faison began her dance education at the Dance Attic at age 5. She danced at the Dance Attic for 14 years where she won honors at various dance competitions and was a scholarship award winner. Brittany is currently a student at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte majoring in dance education and is a member of the Charlotte 49er’s nationally ranked dance team, the Golddusters . Brittany is a talented choreographer and has choreographed many award winning routines for the Dance Attic.
