The Springfield-Greene County Park Board system includes 102 sites, ranging from neighborhood playgrounds to multi-use recreational facilities. The system includes three golf courses, three family centers, Dickerson Park Zoo, the Springfield-Greene County Botanical Center, several sporting facilities, eight pools and more than 100 miles of recreational trails. Parks facilities host more than 50 national, state and regional tournaments a year in softball, baseball, soccer, hockey, tennis and golf, generating an estimated $13-$15 million for the local economy.
The Park Board is home to the Community Olympic Development Program in archery, tennis, ice hockey and volleyball. The Park Board has earned state and national recognition, and received the Gold Medal Award from the National Recreation and Park Association in 2000. In 2003, the City of Springfield, Missouri – Greene County was named Missouri Sportstown USA by Sports Illustrated magazine.
The Park Board was established in 1913 and marks its centennial in 2013, celebrating 100 years of development and stewardship of our community’s parks and recreation opportunities.
