HYC was founded in 1967 by a group of parents concerned with rising levels of juvenile delinquency, drug and alcohol use, gang affiliation, violence and child abuse. After becoming incorporated in 1971, HYC’s primary purpose has been to provide counseling and assistance to children, youth and their families. A major focus of the agency, then and today, is on prevention and intervention in such problems as juvenile delinquency, drug and alcohol abuse, prevention and treatment of child abuse, neglect and family/domestic violence, and access to essential resources including health care, counseling and skill-building for youth and adults including life skills, conflict resolution, anger management and parenting.
