Most people, and it would seem most lawyers, seem to be unaware that the vast majority of court cases are won or lost on procedural grounds.  Too late for their clients, they discover this hard fact when their case loses on procedural grounds without the court ever deciding their case on the merits....

Dear Shooters, I’m writing to you tonight to set the record straight as to exactly what is happening with the Piru Shooting range. In the past few weeks a lot of misinformation has been circulating around. Most of it is incorrect and fabricated. As most of you are aware, the Piru range has been up for sale for some time now. Nobody ever thought it would sell, especially me. But, it appears that it is going to be sold. At this time it is in escrow and is scheduled to close April 1st. I have spoken to the new owners as well as Mike Thompson, both of these individuals tell me the same thing. The new owners have a business model or plan for the canyon which will see a dramatic increase in cost to maintain and run the ranges that we are used to shooting on. They are not trying to run the clubs out of the canyon but it is clear that if we stay, business will change and costs will increase. I don’t want to speculate as to what the other clubs in the canyon are going to do, all I can tell you is how we plan to handle things in order to survive. IF THE ESCROW GOES THROUGH!!!!! I will only be able to afford to keep the bays on the south side (The Deadwood Boys). That means that all rifle shooting will cease effective April 1st. As you know we are only allowed to shoot rifles facing north according to our C.U.P. That in turn means the TTI Rifle match and the X3 Multigun match will be no more. Furthermore I will be discontinuing the 2 Cowboy matches and the 2 DWB Piru Steel (Action Pistol) matches. Leaving just the USPSA match on the 1st Sunday which we will now shoot every Sunday, 4 times a month. There are still a lot of things that need to be ironed out as to exactly how thing are going to go but I felt it necessary to release this earlier than expected in order to avoid confusion and hysteria because of misinformation that is being circulated. I will keep you, the shooters informed as things develop. Respectfully, Sam Houston
