In the 1940's the federal government built a magnesium refractory in Southern Nevada. Magnesium was pivotal to the armaments and production of munitions during World War II. Workers flocked to the Water Street Distict area (formerly known as Basic Townsite). Soon, churches, schools, shops, and other amenties of a town began to appear and take shape. By 1953, this prospecting outpost had evolved into a thriving community, and was incorporated as a City in 1953.
Since, Water Street District has served as the City's heart of recreation and business for 75 years.
