Established in 1946, Houston Youth Symphony is the recipient of national acclaim, including five consecutive years as the national first prize winner of the Mark of Excellence Award from The Foundation for Music Education (2008-2012) and the American Prize in Orchestral Performance - Youth Orchestra Division (2010 and 2011, runner-up in 2012 and 2013). Today Houston Youth Symphony has more than 350 musicians in its four orchestras, an advanced chamber music program and its community outreach initiative - the HYS Melody Program - providing free private lessons to children in targeted schools. Support for our programs and services is derived from the gifts of generous benefactors including foundations, public agencies, corporations and individuals.
