In 1955, Herald Smith saw trucks hauling livestock to Chicago returning empty, and he knew those empty trailers could be put to use. He decided to contract livestock drivers to haul steel on the return trips. With this, Cedar Rapids Steel Transport (CRST) was born. Operating from a renovated chicken coop using borrowed money, CRST rapidly grew into a major player in the trucking industry. Today, as one of the largest privately-held transportation companies with revenues of $ billion and more than 5,000 employees and contractors, CRST continues its rapid growth. This growth requires us to continue investing in and expanding both our driver and nondriver positions. If you are interested in driving for CRST, we invite you to check out the many opportunities our seven operating companies provide If you are interested in office opportunities, we’d love to talk to you.
