B & G Manufacturing
In the mid 1940’s, a semi-retired Garfield Edmonds was providing financial services to two men who owned and operated a small machine shop named JED Manufacturing Company, located in East Falls, Philadelphia. The three men eventually formed a partnership, and together with eight employees, developed the business into a profitable operation.

As they expanded into the fastener markets, so did their company expand, and in the mid- 1950’s the operation moved to a larger facility in Germantown, Philadelphia. By this time they were manufacturing quality standard and specialty fasteners for all types of applications, large or small. Garfield’s partners retired and sold their interests in the company to him, and Garfield’s sons — Garfield Jr. and Richard — joined their father in developing the capabilities of the company. After Garfield’s death in 1962, his sons became the sole owners and operators of JED, and changed the company name to B&G Manufacturing Company — in honor of their parents Betty and Garfield.

The business continued to grow, and in 1970 Garfield and Dick moved B&G to Hatfield, PA. The newly constructed building seemed huge and the brothers doubted they would need all the space, but within two years they required additional work area and added 40,000 square feet to the original 80,000 square foot building.

In 1989 Dick Edmonds became Chairman of B&G, while his two sons, Bill and Rich became responsible for daily operations of the business. Bill oversees Sales and Administration and Rich oversees all manufacturing operations, including design, upgrade and procurement of all equipment. During this time B&G extended a branch into Texas to better meet the needs of the national marketplace. In July 1995, the Company expanded further by opening a service center in Nevada.

The Edmonds family, as owners and operators of B&G Manufacturing, recognize that the future holds many challenges, and continued growth and success of the company is dependent upon constant enhancement of all operations. Spending time training employees, exercising new marketing and manufacturing techniques, procuring modern plant and office facilities, and establishing distribution networks are all ways of ensuring a place in the future for B&G Manufacturing Company.
