Stand with us against the rising tide of racism, nationalism and white supremacy highlighted this past weekend in Charlottesville. Show support for our brothers and sisters around the country who are resisting hate and coming together in love and compassion. We will gather across from Capitol Park on State Street in Augusta, on the sidewalk directly in front of the State House, for a peaceful vigil and to express that hate has no home in our community.

Training Opportunity: Considering pursuing professional certification as a chaplain or pastoral counselor? Clinical Pastoral Training Center of Southern Maine, CPTCSM is offering their next session of CPT beginning on April 4. What is Clinical Pastoral Training/Education? CPT/CPE is a professional training that compliments seminary or theological training and/or can be taken independently for those wishing to explore or sharpen their ability to provide spiritual and pastoral support. It employs an action-reflection-action model of psychodynamic training that helps trainees to hone their pastoral care skills while developing language and support for their ministry. This training benefits folks in all faith traditions and serves as a perfect vehicle for interfaith dialogue and development. You can draw on a number of non-traditional clinical settings to do your training, such as fire or police chaplaincy, providing spiritual care at a nursing home, or at a resource center such as the Cancer Community Center or a jail. This training is perfect to prepare lay ministers for pastoral care, or to sharpen the skills of an already seasoned person in ministry. Using weekly Interpersonal Relations Group to process cases, trainees will fine-tune their ability to read “Living Human Documents”; triaging, assessing, diagnosing and developing plans of care for those they serve. A session includes 13 weeks of Interpersonal Relations Seminar, 3 6 hour didactic trainings, weekly supervision and participation in a local chapter meeting. Sessions meet on Wednesdays from 2pm-5pm in Portland. Participation is available by remote access. CPT is offered by CPTCSM, Clinical Pastoral Training Center of Southern Maine, a program that is accredited by CPSP (College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy). For more information, please contact Rev. Lori Whittemore, MDiv, BCCC, BCPC at lori@abbeyofhope.com. Or by phone at 207-699-8991.
