Southern Minnesota Education Consortium is a special education cooperative consisting of 7 local school districts including Alden-Conger, Glenville-Emmons, Grand Meadow, Kingsland, Leroy-Ostrander, Lyle and Southland. Each local school district provides services for federal setting I and II students. Students with more severe needs attend programs within the cooperative. Those programs include:
First Step Programs (Alden, Kingsland, and Southland): Each of our districts provides special education services in the general education pre-school setting using a co-teaching model. Our students (starting at age 3) who require more in depth services attend the Early Childhood programs in either Adams, Alden or Spring Valley.
CARDS Program: The CARDS Program is our Level III programs for students ages K-12 with Autism who require a high level of special education service. This program is housed in Leroy-Ostrander.
Wolverine Program: This program is for our Level III elementary students grades K-6 with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Developmental and Cognitive Delay. This program is housed in Glenville-Emmons.
FLIGHT Program: The FLIGHT Program is an elementary program for students with emotional and behavioral disabilities who require a high level of service. Students also receive mental health services. This program is housed in Southland Elementary in Rose Creek.
Success Program: The Success Program is a middle school and high school program for students with emotional and behavioral disabilities who require a high level of service. Students also receive mental health services. This program is housed in the Southland MS/HS in Adams.
Enrich Programs: The Enrich Programs are for students K-12 with developmental and cognitive delay. The elementary program is housed in Grand Meadow and the middle school and high school programs are housed in Kingsland and Alden.
Next Step: In the Next Step Transition Program, students have the opportunity to focus on their high school and potentially their transition years to obtain their adult independence work and life goals. Students practice work skills and independent living skills in a structured environment then phase into independence. The Next Programs are housed in Alden and Grand Meadow.
Alternative Learning Center (ALC): The ALC is a year round program and is based on the needs of the individual student who is at risk for educational failure. Students have the option to attend full time, or through credit recovery during the school year, or in the summer. Students can graduate from their home district or from SMEC. This program is housed in Adams, MN.
