Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute

Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute was formed on April 1, 2008 from the existing inpatient units of our two parent organizations UPMC Pinnacle and Penn State Health. We are an organization dedicated to promoting recovery from behavioral health illnesses through the provision of high quality care to people across the lifespan. Our programs and services are designed to meet the needs of individuals, support the critical work of providers, and advance best practices through the use of evidence based models of care, and delivery of the greatest possible value to payers of service.

PPI is committed to understanding how and why behavioral health illnesses develop and can best be treated. We partner with the Penn State Health’s Department of Psychiatry for psychiatrists and substance use disorder physicians and serve as the primary training site for residents and fellows in psychiatry from the Department. As many of our patients have experienced trauma in their lives, our staff have been trained by the United States Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration contracted trainers in providing an organizational culture that supports the delivery of trauma informed care to our patients.

Our compassionate, skilled professional staff members are dedicated to providing the highest level of service to our patients. All of our successes are the result of their efforts. We are so proud and grateful to them for their commitment.
