Pleasant Ridge Bapt Church

In May1859, the church held its first worship service in a newly constructed sanctuary. The sanctuary was a log house. In 1901, the old sanctuary was torn down and the current sanctuary was built on the same site at a total cost of $2, (including glass and fixtures). During the early days there was a hitching-post for horses across the street for horses. There was once a raised sidewalk in front of the church designed to allow women and children dismount from horse drawn carriages. Electricity was installed in the building in 1939. The sanctuary was heated by an iron stove in the middle of the sanctuary until 1953. In 1957, the church built a basement underneath the sanctuary. The sanctuary was lifted while the work was being done, and placed on topw of the basement. The first indoor restrooms were installed in the basement in 1963. In 1974, the church built an addition onto the back of the building, including a baptistery, and four new rooms. In 1984, the church built an education wing in the back of the building which houses ten classrooms, an office, and nursery. This year the church has conducted many repairs to the building, including complete renovation of the entrance and repair of the antique bell in the tower.

From its beginning Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church has existed to share the good news of Jesus Christ with people, and ministered to them in His name. We have done so in different ways and places through the years but the mission remains the same. The church is not the building or the organizations; it is the people who have put their faith in Jesus Christ and committed themselves to follow Him.
