History

Reed & Barton was founded in 1824 by Henry Reed and Charles Barton. Each started at the workbench as craftsmen, continuing to do so even as they moved up the ranks to being managers–and, eventually, presidents of the company. This deep respect for quality continues today and is a core value, a cornerstone of the Reed & Barton culture.

In addition to its popularity with American consumers, Reed & Barton received commissions over the years from national and foreign governments, and has been the recipient of many prestigious honors and awards, including a Medal of Excellence at the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition. Reed & Barton also produced the Olympic Medals for the games held in Atlanta in 1996.

Additionally, the company has enjoyed a long history with the White House. President Dwight Eisenhower received a Reed & Barton-made trophy in 1954 as the winner of the National Celebrities Tournament. President John F. Kennedy cut his inaugural cake in 1961 with a Reed & Barton Pointed Antique cake knife. He and Jacqueline Onassis Kennedy also received one of the company’s Paul Revere punch sets as a gift.

Today, Reed & Barton is one of the most recognizable names in American silver and giftware. Over its long history, the company has continuously strived for excellence and maintained the highest standards of craftsmanship. The company is based in Taunton, Massachusetts, and its manufacturing facility is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
