The senior program began in 1977 as the Papillion Over 60’s Nutrition Site and activities were supported by a “Site Council” of officers, including Billie Jepsen. The program was housed at city hall, the current mayor was Bill Oliver, activities were provided by the Papillion Parks and Recreation Department and meals were provided by ARA Services of Omaha. In 1978 ENOA (Eastern Nebraska Office of Aging) contracted the lunches and they were catered. In 1981 the site moved from City Hall to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. The Papillion Senior Center underwent big changes in 1992 when they moved to the present location of the club house at Tara Hills Golf Course. The City of Papillion provided the building and ENOA provided tables, chairs and kitchen equipment. Many volunteers remember cleaning and decorating the building for occupancy. Over the years the kitchen has been expanded, cabinets and counter space have been added and the patio was enclosed in 2002 providing more dining space, a dance floor and a nurse’s office.
Today we are known as the Papillion Senior Center. We are a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the grand generation through nutritional, recreational, educational, social programs and services. It operates under the umbrella of the City of Papillion Parks and Recreations Department, ENOA (Eastern Nebraska Office of Aging), and the Corporate Board of Directors.
