On December 5, 1972 the vision was cast by a group of 16 Christian Ministers and Christian laymen to develop a nonprofit retirement community that would provide continuous care in a Christian environment. Christian Benevolent Outreach, Inc. (CBO), Sayre’s parent organization, began its ministry in 1975 with a gift of land from Broadway Christian Church. Broadway gifted the land to CBO for development of a community to serve older adults.
Sayre Christian Village became a reality with the opening of Baunta Apartments in 1983 serving independent older adults. In 1984 the Sayre Healthcare Center was added, which provides Long Term Skilled Nursing Care. In 1987 Friendship Towers was opened, also providing independent living apartments for older adults, and in 2002 Friendship Towers became certified to provide Assisted Living to “those who need a little extra help” to remain independent. In 2009 Forest View Apartments, designed for independent older adults, completed the “Village.”
