Virginia's friend Barbara led a session of her poetry corner one week, centered around their marriages, wedding pictures, and obits. Virginia wrote this poem about her husband Wayne who died of leukemia. A couple of women asked if they could change the name and use the poem in honor of their own dear ones. I agreed and changed "To Wayne" to "To Him." I WONDER To Him I wonder when I kiss my dear one’s fading flesh Taste life’s loss as our lips mesh I wonder why Caresses, comfort I did give Then, after all he could not live… I wonder how and where To find the strength I sorely need I dream his words so oft indeed… He swore he’d leave our sweet love never He said life’s strangest force forever Was how love does but change its form And I must accept this as the norm… I lift my heavy heart to day’s bright light His breath, a breeze, calms me at night Warm fire, clear cool water, freshest air Earth’s green goodness shows me his care… I wonder…but truly sense and know Above, among the clouds of angels’ wings My love, a new soul, sings and sings.
