The Appalachian State University Sustainable Development Teaching and Research Farm in Fleetwood, NC has been in operation since fall of 2011, and is home to approximately 35 acres of pasture, 130 acres woodlot and woodlands, a large greenhouse, late-nineteenth century barn, and a student residence where 3-4 SD Agroecology students live and work.
The farm provides students access to hands-on work with sustainably raised pigs, cows, chickens, a large variety of crops, and forest land where sustainable forestry practices are taught. Construction and mechanical skills are also taught at the farm, and past students have worked together to build a new root cellar on the farm and regularly aid in the upkeep of machinery.
Our eggs, meat, and produce are available for sale throughout the year depending on seasonality and stock, and can be bought in the teacher's lounge of the LLA or directly from the farm.
