Founded in 1867, Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) is the largest provider of statewide social services to those in need. It’s a privilege to walk with those in need—step by step—enriching our own lives along the way. As an organization, we get as much out of the help we give as those being helped.
We believe that for our work to be meaningful it needs to be personal. We don’t just give. We give of ourselves and share the principles of Lead, Lift, Learn and Love with those around us every day.
As an organization we provide the help people need through 190 different programs at 85 program sites throughout Illinois. LSSI helps people make essential changes and address their most critical needs. Nearly 50% of the people we serve having incomes less than $5,000 almost 80% are below the poverty line, with the majority of them being children and seniors.
The need for our services continue to grow as more and more people are living in poverty in our state and across our nation. The impact of chronic poverty, on child development and the everyday lives of families, increase the demand for the quality services we offer. People depend on our helping hand to successfully participate in the life of our community.
