Hello all. Happy New Year!! I pray this post finds everyone in good health and perfect peace. This Sunday we are renaming and dedicating the Antioch Christian Academy building to Joe Ann Brown annex. Please see the attached grand opening flier and attend if you can. I think it is a great way to honor Mrs. Brown's legacy.

Antioch Christian Academy (ACA) opened its doors in August 1995 under the leadership of Pastor E. Thurman Walker. At the time of its inception, the Academy began with one kindergarten class of twelve students. Subsequently an afterschool program was established by two retired teachers. Special programs were added that included African dance, karate, Spanish and music with Dolores (Mama Dee) Williams, who continues to this day as the music teacher. In 1996 the school expanded to include Pre-K through second grade. The goal was to add one grade each year until fifth grade was reached. Growth also included a new portable building and playground. A library was established in the W. I. Rector Hall. As the years progressed the school was favored with leadership from many highly qualified administrators who had vision and insight and led the school in a very progressive direction. As enrollment grew, God continued to bless us with many wonderful teachers, staff, committed parents, and numerous volunteers. By the 2001-2002 school year, ACA had sixteen teachers and seven staff members. The grade levels included Pre-K to eight grade. The students soared high in academics, standardized test scores and competitions. Students competed in math and science contests, speech, Spelling Bees, AKA Mahogany Brain Challenge, Latin competitions and numerous other events. There were Science Fairs, Robotic programs, afterschool band and competitive basketball games. The students performed throughout the city, including, Ft. Sam Houston, the Children’s Hospital, the Language Defense School at Kelly AFB, Count Your Blessings and the National Day of Prayer at City Hall. The Academy has produced great scholars over the years as well as fulfilled the goal of setting a foundation for young men and women who would be “Spiritually Solid, Educationally Excellent, and Community Conscious. It is a source of pride for Antioch and the San Antonio community. It is no secret that the demographics of the Eastside and growth in Charter Schools have changed over these last few years, thus affecting both Private school and Public school enrollments. In light of all this the Board consulted with the Pastor and Financial Advisory Board as to the future of our school. Based upon their positive and negative input on the situation and the data received Pastor Kemp had to make one of the hardest decisions he has ever have had to make as a pastor! As hard and as sad as it is for me to inform you, our school, Antioch Christian Academy will suspend its operations until further notice. I believe that we can be proud of the history and accomplishments of Antioch Christian Academy. Being thankful for your understanding of this difficult decision I ask that we all pray for God’s guidance and do whatever we can to promote a strong Christian Faith in all of our children.
