Mill Valley Nursery School ( ) is a cooperative nursery school with a long history of promoting learning through play. The school was established in 1941 by six local mothers. On February 14, 1957, the school was incorporated as a non-profit organization, and ten years later moved to its present location at 51 Shell Road in Mill Valley.
Since its start, the school has provided more than 600 Mill Valley and other Marin County families with a unique place for their children to engage in hands-on experiences at their own pace. Parents—many of whom are Mill Valley Nursery School alumni—work side-by-side with their children supporting their hands-on exploration while developing their parent leadership skills. Teacher Cathy, the school’s only paid staff member, serves as its teacher and director and has done so for eighteen years.
