Wikipedia is a project operated by a non-profit organization, the Wikimedia Foundation, and created and maintained by a strong community of 80,000 international active volunteer editors. Founded in 2001 by Jimmy Wales, Wikipedia has become a top-five global Web property according to comScore, but moreover, it has become an indispensable part of our daily lives.

The project is committed to the development of encyclopedias in all languages of the world and keeping them free and available to everyone, forever. Its sister projects include Wikimedia Commons (a repository of more than 20 million freely usable media files), Wiktionary (a multilingual free content dictionary), and Wikisource (a collection of free source texts), among others. Wikipedia currently offers more than 30 million articles in more than 280 languages. Virtually anyone with Internet access is free to contribute by providing neutral, well-sourced information.

Wikipedia is ad-free and is supported by donations from the public. Lots of people love Wikipedia, but surprisingly few know it's run by a non-profit. To help keep Wikipedia free forever, you can show your appreciation for the project by donating here:
