The Cornell Daily Sun is the nation's oldest independent college daily. Founded in 1880, The Sun was the first collegiate member of the Associated Press (1912), and has always been completely student-run and independent from Cornell University. The Sun has had numerous distinguished alumni, such as Frank Gannett '98, White '21, Oscar Mayer '34, Kurt Vonnegut '44, Dick Schaap '55 and Jeremy Shaap '91.
