Lodge of Whispering Pines welcomes the opportunity to assist you in planning your vacation to our beautiful and unique area in Northeastern Minnesota. Our location along the Historic Echo Trail on pristine island -dotted Big Lake is the perfect place to spend a relaxing and sprit renewing vacation with family or friends. Whether your interest is in fishing DNR top rated Big lake for walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass or jumbo perch or spending an afternoon at the sandy beach, hiking the many trails, paddling a canoe, or searching for the many species of wildlife that live in our beautiful forest, you can do it all here!

Traveling along the Echo Trail along granite cliff roadways that hug the edge of wilderness landscapes to you - you'll experience an awakening to your natural surroundings and an enlightening of your spirit. The noise, the crowds are left behind, and traffic seems nonexistent.
Your vacation has already begun. Just twenty miles north of Ely a secluded private drive leads you further into the Superior National Forest to Lodge of Whispering Pines on Big Lake. Poised among tall pine, picturesque birch, spruce, balsam, and aspen, you realize you are encircled by the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and are now guests of the deer, moose, black bear, timber wolves, loons, and all the other wild creatures that inhabit northern Minnesota's truly natural park.

The large pine-timbered lodge was constructed in the early thirties and renovated throughout the years for our guests pleasure. A massive stone fireplace serves as the focal point of the great room. Guests stay here for relaxation and recreation, but occasionally some find it necessary to mix a little business with pleasure. For them, the lodge becomes a natural setting for conferences, meetings, and receptions. The gift shop and store brim with unique hand-made crafts and convenient grocery items.

Log cabins honed from native timbers were constructed in the early twenties and remain neatly knit into the pine-studded shoreline of Big Lake. Throughout the past few decades, seven additional housekeeping cabins have been built --- some along the shoreline --- others set back into the forest. Creature comforts have been added without altering the ambiance of the early décor. Privacy and comfort complement the natural beauty of the cabins. Whether you choose to be tucked away in the trees or nearer the natural sand swimming beach and playground Each cabin is unique in amenities. Some feature decks in private wooded areas, screen porches, private docks, log construction, or fireplaces. Cabins range from one to three bedrooms (sleeping 3-10 people). All have full kitchens and baths, Charcoal Grills, Picnic tables, outdoor fire rings.

If you are searching for a more back-to-nature experience than staying in a wilderness cabin, consider our lakeside sites (complete with picnic tables and fireplaces) for tents and tent campers. They include water, electricity, fire ring, use of swimming beach, sauna, rest rooms, bathing facilities, and boat launch -- and spectacular views.
